Townfoot Church, Newcastleton, c1970. Copyright: Andrew BethuneThe Townfoot Kirk was built in 1803-4 for a Secession congregation that had started off half a century earlier. It was the first church to be built in the new village of Newcastleton. Its quirky and checkered history starts with its first minister, the Rev James Fletcher, who resigned over an accusatiuon of heresy.

A history of the church and its Evangelical Union/Congregational offshoot will appear on this page in due course.
